Základní pravidla
Jedná se o ojedinělý vertikální trénink, kdy cvičenci vystupováním na step (stupínek o výšce zpravidla 10 - 30cm) a následným sestupováním z něj překonávají výškový rozdíl, čímž dochází k podstatně jinému zatěžování svalstva než u normálního aerobiku, zvláště pak svalstva dolních končetin.
Výzkumy prokazují, že ačkoliv je hudba na step aerobik poměrně pomalá, výdej energie se za určitou časovou jednotku vyrovná běhu.
V hodině je ovšem velmi důležité, aby docházelo ke stejnoměrnému zatěžování obou dolních končetin. K dalším důležitým pravidlům patří:
- nikdy neseskakovat ze stepu dolu
- nesestupovat zády k němu
Zajímavostí jistě je, že step aerobik se vyvinul z rehabilitačního cvičení pro pacienty po operaci kolenního kloubu. Při špatně prováděných pohybech v hodině však může paradoxně dojít k poškození právě kloubů kolen. Je nezbytně nutné, aby instruktor vedl hodinu odborně a vyvaroval se prvků možná líbivých, ale zdravotně závadných.
Velice důležitý je především strečink v závěrečné části hodiny, kde se nesmí zapomenou na nejvíce zatěžované svalové skupiny. Jedná se hlavně o lýtkové svaly, zadní stranu stehen a bedrokyčlostehenní sval.
Většina kroků ve step aerobiku je totožná s kroky ostatními. Jediný rozdíl je, že jsou prováděny vertikálně. Technika je také totožná – našlapovat přes patu, trup vzpřímený, nepropínat kolena.
